Low Wage Workers Host National Walk-Out; Seeking $15/hr Wages

In nearly 300 cities across the country, low wage workers have organized a walk out from their jobs. The protests serve as a basis for fast-food workers, among many others, to demand $15-per-hour payments for their work.

The movement, known as #fightfor15 , is a self-proclaimed fight against “poverty wages.” According to Forbes, the current Federal minimum wage is at $7.25. However, studies show that on average Americans need to make at least $16.97 to make a living wage.

Walkouts started at 6am Tuesday morning, and protests are set to target local government buildings across each city. Organizers aim to bring light to wage issues, as minimum wage is set to be a major focus in the upcoming 2016 presidential election.
