Ludacris Set to Receive Honorary Bachelor’s Degree in Music Management From Georgia State University

Georgia State University is awarding Ludacris with an honorary bachelor’s degree.

On Wednesday, the university announced they’re awarding Luda with an honorary Bachelor of Science degree in Music Management. The Atlanta rapper attended Georgia State in 1998 and 1999 before signing with Def Jam Records. He did not graduate, but years later, Ludacris is finally receiving his degree.

In a statement, the university says the degree is a monument for Luda’s many accomplishments. The school highlighted Luda’s support of the university’s creative media arts and law programs. As well as his commitment to the metro Atlanta community and his philanthropic endeavors.

“We are proud that Chris Bridges [Ludacris] got his start at Georgia State,” Georgia State’s president says. “He has gone on to become a cultural and philanthropic icon, representing Atlanta and giving back in many ways. Our students in the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) and College of Law have benefited from learning from his career, and we’re excited to honor him as a member of the Panther family.”

Ludacris expressed his gratitude to the school, saying, “This is a dream come true for me. Georgia State helped me get my start. And I am so honored and excited to share this milestone with the world.”

In 2019, Ludacris became the artist-in-residence at the university. While there, he acted as a mentor for students and worked with professors dealing with entrepreneurship in the music and film industry.

The public can attend the commencement ceremony on May 4 at Center Parc Stadium or watch it online.
