Man Kills Sexual Partner After Finding Out He Was HIV-Positive, Then Steals His Identity

A Hawaiian man is facing murder charges for brutally killing his lover once finding out he was HIV-positive.

The gruesome details were uncovered when Lorne Ruby requested a welfare check for his brother, 73-year-old Gary Ruby. Lorne told police he hadn’t spoken to his brother in three weeks. In their last conversation, Gary revealed that he was seeing a “significantly younger” man, 23-year-old Juan Tejedor Baron. When police arrived at the home located in the 300 block of Lelekepue Place on Hawaii Loa Ridge on March 7th, they found Baron, who claimed to have purchased the house from Gary five years earlier. Once confronted with the fact that Gary had only been living in the home for two years, Baron changed his story, telling police he bought the house from the missing man two years ago. The next day, police searched the home and excavated a bathtub filled with cement, where they located Gary’s body encased in the substance.

On March 9th, Baron was arrested in Los Angeles after fleeing Hawaii with another man, Scott Hannon, though he has not been charged. The day after his arrest, Baron confessed that he strangled Gary with a belt shortly after they had sex because Gary revealed his HIV-positive status. He then slit the man’s wrist to make it look like a suicide before concealing the body.

Baron also told police that he forged ownership papers to transfer the title to Gary’s 2020 Audi and planned to do the same thing with his $1.1 million home. The young man pretended to be the son of wealthy parents and even brought a Tinder date to Gary’s home while his remains were in one of the bathrooms.

Baron is facing second-degree murder, first-degree identity theft, and first-degree theft charges.
