Mariah Carey is gearing up to release her long-awaited memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.” The “Hero” vocalist sat down with The Oprah Conversation to give fans a look into what the memoir will entail.

The five-time Grammy winner was asked by Oprah Winfrey whether or not she was afraid to reveal certain things in her book, to which she replied that she was not because she has never spoken ill of anyone in the industry despite it being done to her.

“Yes, but it’s not because I was worried about what they would think. It’s because I never would have spoken a word about anybody in my life — and I try to be very fair — but people have drawn first blood with me, historically.”

Carey continued, “When there are people connected to you as a person that achieves a certain level of success, you are a target, you’re vulnerable, but I wouldn’t have gone here if things hadn’t been done to me, if I hadn’t been dragged by certain people and treated as an ATM machine with a wig on. Like, all it is is [motions to make it rain] … like, ‘Let me get some money, and let me get some money no matter what.'”

In recent weeks, rumors have swirled that Carey will also address her past relationship with Eminem in her memoir, something the singer denied in a recent interview with New York Magazine.

“There’s some songs that I can sing in response to that, but I will not do it. If somebody or something didn’t pertain to the actual meaning of Mariah Carey, as is the title, then they aren’t in the book.”

“The Meaning of Mariah Carey” will debut on September 29th.
