Marine Veteran Shot And Killed While Trying To Apologize After Road Rage Incident

A 41-year-old Marine veteran, Keith Byrne, was shot and killed last week during a road rage shootout that occurred as he tried apologizing to a driver for cutting her off in traffic.

Byrne, father of three, was driving when he cut off a driver of a BMW in the Miami suburb of Davie.

According to WFOR-TV, Kieth’s friend who was on the phone with him at the time of the incident said his friend waited for the car to pull up to the stoplight next to him with the intention of apologizing to the driver.

When the BMW pulled up at the light, 22-year-old Andre Sinclair got out of the passenger seat and shot Byrne in the chest as he sat in his truck. Byrne fires back with his own weapon, hitting Sinclair twice.

“Mr. Byrne was acting in self-defense when he ultimately fired back at Mr. Sinclair,” Davie police Sgt. Mark Leone told the news station.

Both men held concealed-carry permits, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinal. Byrne died at the scene, and Sinclair was taken to a local area hospital where he died two days later.

Authorities said the driver of the BMW was Sinclair’s girlfriend and the couples’ 19-month-old daughter was in the backseat.

Police sources confirmed that Sinclair would have been judged as the aggressor in the case had he not succumb to his injuries.

“Road rage can happen anywhere at any time,” Leone said. “Out there on the roads, we must share the roads with everybody. Everybody is trying to get somewhere, school, work, home. … Everybody is in a rush to get somewhere. But when we start letting our tempers get involved, bad things happen.”
