Mark Cuban Says The Government Should Give ALL U.S. Resident Families $1,000 Bi-Weekly

Shark Tank star and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban fired off a series of tweets explaining how he thinks the government should handle the economic crisis created by COVID-19. The billionaire referred to his idea as “trickle-up economics” and said, “consumer demand, not loans, is the best way to save businesses and jobs.”

Cuban suggested a transitional jobs program that would train and hire millions of people, “for a federal tracking/tracing/testing program.” He went on to say; he believes that tackling the crisis this way would help create jobs and reduce the country’s unemployment rate.

Of course, this program would take time to implement, so in the interim he said, all 128 million American households should get a $1,000 stimulus check every two weeks for a two-month period. The catch is, checks would be given on a “use it or lose it” basis. Meaning, if the household failed to spend the entire stimulus check within 10 days of receiving it, whatever amount was leftover would expire. Cuban estimates that this would cost a whopping $500b. A price he believes is worth the expense in order to increase demand for non-essential services and products, which in turn would help keep businesses afloat.

Unlike the CARES Act that included income limitations, all 128 million households would be eligible for Cuban’s proposal. Is the entrepreneur actually onto something, though? Unfortunately, according to Forbes, it’s highly unlikely that the hypothetical bill would pass. That said, the outlet does note there is a real possibility of a second stimulus check, though. There’s no mention of how long it could be until it’s in your hands, but like the first, it would most likely be a one-time thing.
