Georgia has long been known as “Hollywood of the South,” with big studios flocking to the state for tax incentives and affordable production costs. But now, that golden run may be coming to an end.
Reports confirm that Marvel Studios is moving away from Georgia for more international filming, with the U.K. becoming a top choice. The decision comes as the cost of filming rises and studios find more favorable conditions abroad.
At its peak, Georgia’s entertainment industry supported close to 20,000 jobs, ranging from behind-the-scenes crew to businesses that catered to productions. While Marvel itself didn’t employ all those people, its exit signals a major slowdown that could deeply affect the state’s economy.
For years, Marvel projects like Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther turned Georgia into a movie-making powerhouse. Now, the future looks uncertain as fewer blockbuster-level productions are scheduled in the state.
Industry insiders warn that without a strong comeback or new incentives, Georgia’s film industry might never look the same.
