Mary J. Blige Is Focused On Self Love & “Good Morning Gorgeous” Promotes Just That

Mary J. Blige has been on a self-love journey which she has been generous enough to share with all of us.

Her most recent album, “Good Morning Gorgeous,” is an ode to everything she has overcome in her life. Beyond that, the title is an actual mantra that Blige uses in her morning ritual to uplift herself and set the tone for the day. The 52-year-old has much to celebrate, sitting in a rare position for a female artist who has been in the industry for over three decades. Last year, she launched her “Strength of a Woman Festival” and received praise for her role as “Monet” in “Power Book II: Ghost.” Additionally, her 15th studio album has landed her six Grammy nominations at this year’s ceremony.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Blige says that despite an illustrious 30+ year career decorated with accolades, it took her a while to appreciate her accomplishments.

“I wasn’t able to see the good things until I really got my head together and my life together,” she shared.

These days, Blige makes a conscious effort to show up for herself, starting the day by telling herself, “Good Morning, Gorgeous.” She also incorporates these encouraging words into her meditation, a time designated for herself and God. Blige finds beauty in being able to say, “I appreciate my life,” because it is not something that she has always believed.

During her 2021 Amazon Prime documentary, “My Life,” Blige was transparent about her past struggles with alcohol and cocaine addiction. Thankfully, the r&b icon has been sober for years, but other issues within her personal life tested her, such as her divorce from former manager Kendu Isaacs. Through it all, Blige has overcome, and now, her main concern is showing herself the unconditional love that she has long given others.

“No one can love me like me. Nobody can.”
