Las Vegas is about to host a time capsule with a pay-per-view price tag, because Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are officially running it back.
The Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch is set for September 19 in Las Vegas, and this time it will stream live on Netflix. The two future Hall of Famers will be 49 and 47 when they step into the ring, nearly a decade after their 2015 showdown. Back then, Mayweather won by decision and kept his unbeaten record intact. That fight shattered revenue records but left fans split on the action inside the ropes.
Now, both men say this second chapter carries unfinished business.
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said. “The fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”
Mayweather kept it short.
“I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” he said.
Mayweather has not had a professional bout since 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor, though he did have an exhibition fight against John Gotti III in Mexico City on August 24, 2024. Another is planned against Mike Tyson in April. Pacquiao fought for the WBC welterweight title last year.
Netflix has been pushing deeper into live sports. It’s 2024 Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson event drew 108 million live global viewers, setting a streaming record. So the platform clearly believes nostalgia still sells.
