McDonald’s Introducing McPlant Nuggets Made From Peas, Corn, and Wheat

McDonald’s customers in Germany will get to enjoy nuggets without the guilt of consuming animals.

The fast food hero will debut meatless nuggets in the country beginning next week. Over 1,400 locations will receive this exciting new menu selection. Officially known as McPlant Nuggets, they are a collaborative endeavor with Beyond Meat, which spearheaded the effort to bring plant-based nuggets to McDonald’s in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, and the Netherlands. The German rollout arrives after a successful test run in the Stuttgart area back in August.

This is the second meat alternative geared toward vegans. In 2021, they debuted the McPlant burger. Though it was a success in the same regions that will get the McPlant Nuggets, it flopped in the U.S. Some areas sold as little as three per day. The McPlant burger has not been spotted in the states since last summer. There have not been any plans to reintroduce it.

The McPlant Nuggets are made from peas, corn, and wheat with a tempura batter. They can still be enjoyed with the same famous dipping sauces such as Sweet & Sour and Barbeque.

Beyond Meat has been the go-to for fast-food companies wanting to expand their food offerings. With a worldwide push to eat less meat as a means of helping the environment, Beyond Meat has helped restaurants such as Panda Express and KFC reach their vegan goals.
