McDonald’s Is Upgrading Its Burgers With Softer Buns, Gooier Cheese & More Onions On The Beef

McDonald’s burgers are getting a makeover in 2024, and the taste will be the most significant difference.

The chain is moving towards a more pleasant eating experience for its customers. One of the most noticeable changes will be the incorporation of softer buns. Onions will be placed on patties while still on the grill, offering a more homemade flavor. After being cooked this new way, meltier cheese will be smothered on the beef. As for the Big Mac, expect much more Mac sauce.

While these upgrades aren’t earth-shattering, the fast food chain says they will improve their meals drastically, as outlined by chef Chad Schafer, senior director of culinary innovation of McDonald’s USA.

“We found that small changes, like tweaking our process to get hotter, meltier cheese and adjusting our grill settings for a better sear, added up to a big difference in making our burgers more flavorful than ever,” Schafer said in a statement released on Monday.

In addition to the Big Mac, the McDouble, classic cheeseburger, hamburger, and double cheeseburger will receive a makeover. These latest updates arrived several years after the company made a big change for its Quarter Pounders. In 2018, the company introduced fresh beef for the hefty sandwich. Though costlier, this move netted big sales, as fans favored this over the previously frozen patties. The improvements have already begun arriving in some U.S. cities, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Phoenix. However, McDonald’s confirmed that each location should be fully acclimated with these new burger-making guidelines by next year.
