Meagan Good Says Skincare Went Left and Had Her Looking “So Pale” as Internet Accused Her of Bleaching

A routine skincare decision turned into a public misunderstanding that Meagan Good says she had to quietly endure while the internet made up its mind.

Speaking on “The Breakfast Club” on April 1, the actress revisited the moment people assumed she had bleached her skin, when in reality she was dealing with the aftermath of a treatment that went left. Good explained that she originally sought help for anti-aging but was pushed to treat her dark spots by an esthetician, even after she described them as her “natural contour.”

“I start using the product. I instantly see that I’m getting lighter, and she’s like, ‘Don’t worry, just give it a few weeks. All your color will come back,’” Good said. “I give it a few weeks, and I look so pale and so crazy.”

Things escalated when she stepped out at a New York premiere, and cameras amplified the change, making her appearance look even more washed out. So while the photos circulated, assumptions followed quickly behind them.

“As a Black woman, I would never do that to myself. And it just broke my heart to think that young Black girls would think that I did that or like I don’t like myself,” she said. “I was like, ‘Why would I do that all of a sudden at 39 years old? That’s crazy.’”

Good said the situation felt “so humiliating,” especially because she had no way to immediately prove what actually happened.

“I couldn’t do anything. I was like, ‘I look crazy,’” she added. “‘I literally have to just sit in this and accept that people are going to think that I did this to myself.’”

She also revealed that attempts to reverse the damage initially made things worse.

“I had open flesh all over my face. My face was completely discolored, and it was just it was really traumatizing,” she said, noting that another dermatologist later corrected the issue.

Now, she’s telling the story on her terms, clearing the narrative that never belonged to her in the first place.
