Melania Trump is pushing for the integration of artificial intelligence in U.S. schools, framing the technology as a necessity for the next generation.
In an op-ed published by Fox News on Saturday, she argued that for the United States to remain a world leader, its students must be at the forefront of the “AI technology-driven future.”
Rather than viewing the rise of high-tech tools with suspicion, Melania suggested that Americans need to shift their perspective. She wrote that the country should “embrace” the change instead of “fearmongering about robots,” noting that AI is designed to help teachers rather than push them out of the classroom.
“AI is the continuation of human knowledge’s delivery evolution and should be embraced.” She further explained that the technology “provides access to an elite education — the highest level of human knowledge — benefiting students, families and educators alike.”
Melania also took the opportunity to defend her “Be Best” campaign from her husband’s first term. She noted that the initiative, which focused on online safety, was “wrongfully deemed trivial and inconsequential,” but she believes the current technological shift represents “another critical moment in time.”
“Do not dismiss the power of AI — open your mind to its potential, and educate yourself,” she urged in the piece.
Beyond national competitiveness, Melania highlighted AI’s potential to provide high-quality resources to every student, regardless of their family’s bank account.
“AI is a great equalizer and can level the educational playing field for all children. For generations, only wealthier families could afford tutors and specialized programs. AI changes this completely,” she wrote. “In these ways, AI democratizes education and provides children in underserved communities equal access to the best caliber of academics.”
Addressing concerns about the future of the teaching profession, she insisted that “America’s teachers will remain the foundation of education, but can also be empowered by AI.” She clarified that the goal is not a science fiction scenario where educators are discarded.
“As their roles evolve, AI will support them with up-to-date information, tools for personalized instruction and more time to focus on critical thinking, creativity and mentorship,” she continued. “AI is not intended to replace teachers with humanoids.”
Her closing argument was a stark warning about international competition, specifically pointing to the rapid advancements being made overseas.
“China is aggressively integrating AI into its education, industry and national strategy, and it understands that the country that leads in AI will lead in global influence, economic power and information dominance,” she wrote. “America’s future leadership in the world begins in our classrooms. Let’s ensure our children have every advantage to lead, succeed and keep America superior.”
