Miami-Dade Will Lift Its Midnight Curfew On April 12th

Miami-Dade will officially lift its COVID-19 curfew on April 12th after a year in place.

The county’s mayor Daniella Levine Cava made the announcement on Monday during a news conference. The county’s midnight curfew was put in place after South Florida endured an influx of COVID-19 infections in the early days of the pandemic.

Cava attributes the decision to the county’s positivity rate declining amid widespread COVID-19 vaccine efforts. She said that 72% of people age 65 and older had received the whole vaccine in Miami-Dade. Over 800,000 have received at least one dose.

“Our single best tool, of course, is this vaccine. It’s the only thing that will end this pandemic so that we can get back to normal and rebuilding our economy,” Cava explained.

Lifting the curfew will help bars, restaurants and the hospitality industry shake back after a sluggish 2020.

In addition to the curfew lift, Cava also announced that senior centers would be reopening and childcare centers would be allowed to double their capacity.
