Michael B. Jordan Opens Up About Lauren London’s Openness With Grief Helping Him Act

Michael B. Jordan says that Without Remorse co-star Lauren London’s openness with her grief helped him better play his role in the film.

Jordan, 34, opened up about the experience on the Jemele Hill Is Unbothered podcast Monday. He explained that he initially thought the subject matter would be too intense for London since she had recently lost her fiancée to gun violence. Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot outside his clothing store in March of 2019.

“Her sharing her experience with me and having pretty lengthy conversations about grief and suffering and what that looks and feels like really helped me get to a certain place as a character,” Jordan told the host.

In the movie based on the Tom Clancy book of the same name, London plays the pregnant wife of Jordan’s character, John Kelly. Kelly, a Navy SEAL, vows to seek revenge for his wife’s death.

“She was really transparent about [grief], and I was extremely grateful for that. She’s very talented and has so much to give,” Jordan said. “Wanting this to be a little therapeutic note for her as an artist is sometimes our space to vent and express ourselves in a certain type of way, and she felt like it was time for her to do that. So, I just kind of lined up where she was in her life and this project.”

The movie has been available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video since the end of April.
