Micheal Barrow, a former New York Giants linebacker, was arrested late Monday night after an intense family argument outside Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport led to multiple physical altercations involving his children and wife.
According to TMZ, the confrontation began as a dispute between Barrow and his minor son during their trip to the airport. Barrow’s wife, Shelley, attempted to calm the situation by shielding the child. Officers say in the report, “Unfortunately, Micheal Barrow inadvertently struck Shelley in the face, which caused her to fall to the ground.”
The report further reveals that Barrow’s older son witnessed the incident.
“He observed his mother on the ground and his father punching his younger brother,” police wrote. Attempting to stop the assault, the older son physically intervened, leading to a scuffle with Barrow.
Authorities arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and arrested Barrow on a charge of battery. He was booked into Broward County Jail and has since entered a not guilty plea, according to court documents filed on Wednesday.
Barrow, 54, was a second-round NFL draft pick in 1993 and played for teams including the Oilers, Panthers, Giants, and Cowboys across 12 seasons. He also had a standout college career at the University of Miami, where he helped secure two national championships. In his post-playing years, he transitioned into coaching, serving with the Hurricanes and later with the Seattle Seahawks.
