A growing number of service personnel are looking beyond the military for answers, and it all centers on missions tied to decisions from Donald Trump’s administration.
According to PBS NewsHour, some staff officers and others with indirect roles in certain operations are reaching out to non-military legal experts to figure out if the assignments they’re supporting even align with the law.
These aren’t the operators carrying out missions on the ground but the personnel who help plan or support them. They’re expressing a quiet but real concern: internal legal channels may not be enough.
Typically, service members rely on JAG officers for guidance, but some now feel the need for independent review before backing operational plans that raise red flags.
These personnel want clarity, transparency, and assurance that the missions they’re tied to are legal.
