Mizzou Football Star Comes Out Of The Closet

Former Missouri defensive lineman Michael Sam has come out of the closet publicly and could possibly be the first openly gay male in the NFL. He made the announcement to ESPN and The New York Times on Sunday. 

“I am an openly, proud gay man,” he tells ESPN, “I understand how big this is. It’s a big deal. No one has done this before. And it’s kind of a nervous process, but I know what I want to be … I want to be a football player in the NFL.”

The NFL released a statement Sunday regarding the 6’2″, 255 lb athlete. “We admire Michael Sam’s honesty & courage. Michael is a football player. Any player with ability and determination can succeed in NFL.”

I can definitely see that all eyes will be on Michael Sam.
