Consumers Beware: M&M’s With Custom Branding Flagged by FDA After Milk, Peanut, and Soy Weren’t Listed

M&M's

Anyone with a sweet tooth might want to pause before tearing into certain bags of M&M’s sitting at home.

On January 26, Beacon Promotions Inc. announced a voluntary recall involving more than 6,000 cases of repackaged M&M products that were sold with custom promotional branding. The issue centers on undeclared allergens, specifically milk, peanuts, and soy, which were not listed on the packaging.

The recall was later classified by the Food and Drug Administration as Class II on February 4. According to the agency, this level means exposure may “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” for people with relevant food allergies.

The affected items include 1.3-ounce repackaged M&M’s Peanut candies sold under the slogan “Make Your Mark.” Additional versions feature customized labels tied to corporate branding and events, with company names printed directly on the packaging. Examples include Morgan Stanley, Adobe, Xfinity, Subaru, and several others used for promotional distribution.

These products were shipped to customers across 20 states, including California, Texas, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Washington, along with multiple Midwestern and Southern states. The candies were not limited to retail shelves and were often distributed through corporate or marketing channels.

Consumers who believe they may have one of the recalled packages are encouraged to review the lot numbers and sell-by dates listed on the FDA’s website for confirmation. As of publication, no illnesses or allergic reactions linked to the recalled products have been reported.

For people with food allergies, officials stress that checking labels and recall notices remains essential, especially when products come from promotional or non-traditional packaging sources.
