Nearly 20,000 Kia And Hyundai Electric Vehicles Recalled Over Parking Brake Issue

Hyundai and Kia have recalled nearly 20,000 Ioniq 5s and EV6s over an issue with voltage fluctuation.

Almost 20,000 of Kia and Hyundai’s newest electric cars are going to have to go back to the drawing board on one of the car’s functions that are causing the cars to roll away when they’re parked. According to Ars Technica, the issue comes from a voltage fluctuation that happens when the car is parked and turned off.

The cars impacted by the recall include 9,014 Kia EV6s along with 10,729 Hyundai Ioniq 5s.

The news outlet reports that a command signal from the shifter control unit may disconnect the parking lever that result in the car rolling when placed in park.

So far, there have been four complaints that were reported to the car companies. Between the time that automakers contact the affected car owners, the companies are telling owners to use the electronic parking brake when parking their car.
