“Never Go Eric Benet,” Eric Benet Says Rappers Who Glorify Violence and Abusing Drugs Are Just Blackface For White Supremacy

Nearly 15 years after Eric Benet rose to infamy for his split with People’s Most Beautiful, Halle Berry, the R&B star has, once again, made headlines for his actions. In a recent post shared to Instagram, the “Spend My Life With You” singer provided an interesting take on the current state of rap music and culture.

“Inconvenient truth to some of the rich and famous,” Eric wrote underneath a meme that read, “Rap Artists, if all you rap about is killing black people, degrading black women, abusing drugs, materialization, living a low life, you are are not a artist. You are a black face for white supremacy.”

“You are being used to help destroy your own people,” the meme added.

While some agreed with the social media hot take, such as Claudia Jordan, who responded, “Facts!,” Malcolm Jamal Warner, who wrote, “Come on now! Say motherf*cking word!, and Trevor Jackson, who said, “I talk about this all the time,” others were opposed.

According to Bossip, Jae Millz seemed to disagree, saying, “Eric Benet giving me rap advice is like me giving him advice on how he could’ve saved his marriage. And I’m not married. #Payattentionitsfree.” Meanwhile, Wale said, “Hip-hop always had an affinity for material things. It’s apart of the very fabric (no pun) but does not define players IN said game. But I’m 3xZ doe. He got a point it’s not the only point.”
