New Music Friday is serving this week, largely thanks to Jill Scott and several others who unveiled repeat-worthy releases, leaving fans in awe.
As the Philadelphia star inches closer to her long-awaited album, “To Whom This May Concern,” her first in 11 years, Scott has delivered another soothing track titled “Don’t Play.” What made this drop even better is Scott unveiling it on “Colors,” giving a live performance that serves as yet another introduction to her album. Despite her hiatus, Scott proves that her vocals are still in shape, flexing a range that remains unmatched in today’s R&B. As we await the arrival of “To Whom This May Concern,” Jilly From Philly is keeping her supporters engaged and eager for what’s to come.
Fresh off the heels of his Spike Lee joint “Highest 2 Lowest,” A$AP Rocky has finally returned to his musical roots in full form. Rocky has long teased “Don’t Be Dumb.” However, with his other endeavors taking center stage, the project was continuously pushed back. Now, with 17 new tracks, many of which focus on his Harlem drip and the fact that he bagged one of the hottest women in the game, the rollout feels intentional. While it remains to be seen if day-one Rocky fans are still as engaged as they were with his 2011 debut mixtape, “Live. Love. A$AP,” the artistry is sure to be appreciated.
J. Cole also entered the chat this week, sending fans into a frenzy when he announced the release date for his forthcoming LP, “The Fall Off.” This was followed up with “Disc 2 Track 2,” presumably the first single from the project. J. Cole also delivered a visual to accompany the track, which showcases his impeccable lyricism.
