New Report Says Lucky Charms Cereal Making People Sick

According to a new report, Lucky Charms breakfast cereal is making some people sick with symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.

The New York Post cites iwaspoisoned.com, a website that tracks foodborne illness, as the source of the complaints. The website has logged more than a hundred complaints of people becoming ill after eating a bowl of the General Mills cereal.

Consumers reported symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pains. “Got diarrhea, vomiting, high temperature, and very sick for a few days from Lucky Charms,” one person wrote.

General Mills says that the complaints are under review but does not believe there is a link between the cereal and the illness.

“Food safety is our top priority. We are aware of consumer claims submitted via the website and have conducted a thorough internal investigation,” Andrea Williamson, a General Mills spokesperson, said in a statement. “Based on our food safety programs and review of consumer feedback we’ve received directly, we do not believe these complaints are attributed to our product. We encourage consumers to please share their feedback directly with General Mills to ensure it is captured in our ongoing review.”

Complaints started rolling in last July but have spiked this year. Iwaspoisened.com’s founder, Patrick Quade, told the Post he alerted General Mills in September. The company never responded.

Since the Post broke the story, the site has seen an uptick in consumer complaints regarding Lucky Charms.
