NFL Hopeful Brian Banks Opens Up About Being Falsely Accused Of Rape On 60 Minutes

Somehow this entire story had gotten away from me and I totally forgot about it.  Brian Banks was an NFL hopeful who was falsely accused of the kidnap and rape of former high school classmate Wanetta Gibson. He agreed to a plea deal, avoiding a maximum life sentence,  and spent 5 years in prison. Long story short, he was later exonerated after Gibson admitted via Facebook that she lied about what happened and there was no sexual contact at all. The worst part about it is that Gibson was awarded $1.5 million from Long Beach city schools in a civil suit claiming a lack of security was partly responsible for the alleged rape. Gibson said she wanted to help Banks clear his name, but would be careful because she did not want to return the money.

This is all too terrible and it kills me that someone could take 5 years of someones life and $1.5 million dollars of tax payer’s money for no reason at all. Finally Brian Banks gets to tell his story thanks to some help from 60 Minutes and you can watch the clips below.
