Nicki Minaj and her legal team are shifting again as the attorney handling one of her civil cases has formally asked to withdraw from representing her.
New court filings show that Matthew Abbott submitted a motion requesting to step down as Minaj’s counsel in a $10 million lawsuit filed by Tameer Peak. The request cites a “communication breakdown” between the parties.
Peak has previously taken legal action against the rapper. In September 2025, he claimed Minaj falsely accused him of criminal conduct and stalking. He also filed a slander claim in August 2024 tied to similar allegations.
Abbott explained in the filing that the management company he works with, which Minaj recently hired, has been unable to reach her for months. According to the documents, the company contacted Minaj and her accountants “several times” without receiving a response.
Abbott further stated that outreach attempts included direct text messages and emails to Minaj, but there was no reply.
The latest development follows the abrupt withdrawal of Minaj’s former attorney, Judd Burstein, late last year. After Burstein stepped away from the case, Abbott submitted a letter to the court requesting additional time to allow Minaj to obtain permanent representation.
A judge has not yet decided whether to grant Abbott’s motion. However, the court has issued a deadline requiring Minaj to respond to the request as the $10 million lawsuit proceeds.
For now, the legal dispute remains active, with the question of representation still unresolved.
