Within hours of being named Donkey of the Day, she hopped back on Twitter and began retweeting old allegations against Charlamagne tha God, resurfacing a 2001 case that has followed him for years. The allegations stem from a then-15-year-old girl named Jessica Reid, who accused Charlamagne of sexually assaulting her at a party in South Carolina. In court documents and later interviews, Reid claimed that she was given a drink, began to feel dizzy, and was carried into a room where Charlamagne allegedly assaulted her. A rape kit was administered at the time, but no conclusive DNA linked Charlamagne to the assault.
Charlamagne was originally charged but never convicted of rape. Instead, he later pled guilty to a lesser charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for providing alcohol to underage attendees. He was sentenced to three years of probation. For decades, he has denied ever having sexual contact with Reid and has said his DNA did not match. In 2018, when Reid attempted to reopen the case, South Carolina prosecutors declined to pursue it again, citing a lack of evidence.
Reid later filed a civil lawsuit accusing Charlamagne not only of sexual assault but also of defamation, saying his retelling of the night in his book and interviews was damaging to her reputation. But in 2024 a New York judge dismissed her lawsuit, ruling it was filed well beyond the statute of limitations. The court also rejected her attempt to amend the case and dismissed her defamation claims, saying Charlamagne’s version of events did not expose her to public disgrace in a legal sense.
Charlamagne has repeatedly said he never assaulted Reid, acknowledging his youthful mistakes but maintaining his innocence regarding the most serious claims. Despite court dismissals, Reid has continued to speak out, and her story still circulates online.
By retweeting the old allegations today, Nicki Minaj reignited public debate and reminded fans of a dark chapter that Charlamagne has spent years addressing both in court and in interviews. The resurfacing of the case adds more fuel to their already tense feud, with Nicki using past accusations to turn the spotlight back on Charlamagne as he criticizes her.
