The police officer in North Carolina who was captured on video choking a K-9 and hanging it with its leash is now out of a job. The officer resigned after an independent investigation determined he should be fired.
According to TMZ, the Salisbury Police Department says the independent investigation determined that officer James Hampton engaged in “inappropriate discipline” of the police dog, Zuul, which was in total violation of department policies.
The SPD also revealed that Hampton was allowed a due process hearing but handed in his resignation effectively immediately before he was ultimately terminated.
The Salisbury Police department vowed to continue reviewing its K-9 training operations, policies, and procedures, with potential changes to be announced down the line.
