Drivers Beware: 2,000 Speed Cameras Across NYC Are Now Operating 24/7

There are now 2,000 speed cameras in New York City operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The cameras were previously only operational on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Statistics show that more than half of the city’s traffic fatalities occur overnight and on weekends.
The registered owner of any vehicle speeding over ten mph will now receive a $50 fine.
City officials say overall speeding infractions have decreased 72% on average at camera locations since the automated speed camera enforcement program began in 2014.
The city announced the change to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries as part of its Vision Zero plan.
Opponents say it is a cash grab, but supporters say it improves pedestrian safety by forcing drivers to slow down.
