Omicron Surges Causing Event Cancellations Everywhere

Just as we thought the Coronavirus pandemic was coming to a close, the Omicron variant surged; and many events are being canceled or postponed because of it.

On Wednesday, the NHL Player’s Association agreed to start the holiday break early and plans to pause its season.

The statement released by the NHL Public Relations teams states that “players will report back to their Clubs on Dec. 26, which shall be used for testing, practice and/or travel only.”

The NHL will also cancel the planned Olympic break and use the time to play games that have been postponed due to COVID-19 outbreaks that prompted the NHL to pause the season.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced that the 2022 Governors Awards will be postponed due to complications, with no new date set, via Deadline.

“Given the uncertainties around the variants, and the impact this could have on our community, we feel is the best and safest decision for our honorees and guest,” the organization said in a statement.” Rescheduled plans will come at a later date as we continue to prioritize the health and wellbeing of all those involved.”

On Tuesday Fox Entertainment Announced the cancellation of its New Year’s Eve special, Fox’s New Year’s Eve Toast & Roast 2022.

The recent velocity of the spread of Omicron cases has made it impossible to produce a live special in Times Square that meets our standards,” the network said in a statement. “The health and safety of our cast and crews have always been, and will continue to be, of the utmost importance.”

Theatre Under the Stars has canceled all the remaining dates for its production of “The Little Mermaid” at the Houston Performing Arts Hobby Center because of a COVID outbreak within the company.

Artistic director, Dan Knecthges, released a statement on Monday saying the cast and crew want to stay in compliance with operating guidelines, and due to the outbreak, they’re closing the production early.

Although disease experts say the new variant isn’t as threatening to those with the vaccine, people still don’t want to risk their safety.

Singers Harry Styles and Khalid won’t be performing at the Capital One Beach Bash in Miami either. In fact, the bash is canceled entirely.

“Due to increasing logistical and production challenges related to the pandemic and after consultation with the artist and their production teams, we have jointly made the difficult decision to cancel the Capital One Beach Bash originally scheduled for December 30, 2021, on South Beach at Lummus Park.” reads a statement from Capital One.

The Beach Bash was announced as a free concert to kick off the pre-game fun at the Orange Bowl in South Beach.

The Wendy Williams Show announced on Tuesday that the show will be on hold while COVID-19 hospitalizations have jumped by 70% cases rise in New York. The show released a statement on Instagram explaining the show will continue live tapings on Jan. 10.

The “Nick Cannon Show,” announced similar news on the same day saying the show will also continue their live tapings on Jan.10.
