#OscarsSoWhite Creator Says Ice Cube Engaged In “Digital Voter Suppression” While Helping Trump

Ice Cube has been getting the side eye from fans ever since it was revealed that he assisted Donald Trump with revisions to his “Black Economic Empowerment Platinum Plan,” which includes multiple proposals such as prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan and Antifa as terrorist groups and making Juneteenth a federal holiday. When the news broke that Cube assisted the unstable administration, many took aim at him on social media including #OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign, claiming that he “actively engaged in digital voter suppression against Black folk.”

Reign initially responded to a tweet that one user wrote, saying that the “Check Yo Self” rapper had previously told Blacks to “withhold [their] vote and to question the Dems.” From there she penned an entire thread calling out Cube for his alleged hypocrisy.

“Yes. That’s exactly it. He’s been actively engaged in digital voter suppression against Black folks. Now the curtain has been pulled back and we see it was part of a larger plan. What a disappointment,” Reign said.

Cube responded to the backlash by admitting that he presented the Contract With Black America or CWBA to both the Democratic and Republican parties. However, while the Dems said that they would wait until after the election to address it, the Trump administration hopped on immediately and made adjustments to their Platinum Plan based on what was presented in the CWBA.

“Facts: I put out the CWBA. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA,” he tweeted before adding “Every side is the Dark Side for us here in America. They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”

Reign fired back with “Cube serving y’all the equivalent of “…’very fine people on both sides.’ Unamused face It’s literally a Republican & Trump talking point. Only one side is trying to take healthcare away from millions of people. Just…as an example.”

Reign also defended Joe Biden’s decision to speak with Cube after the election about his CWBA, while Trump on the other hand was simply trying to obtain the Black vote yet again in another desperate attempt.

“In my head:

Ice Cube: Hey. I wrote a thing.

Biden campaign: Great! Our plan is up already, happy to talk to you post-election.

Trump campaign: Mr. Cube! You’re part of the black man demographic we’re desperately trying to siphon off. Will your plan help us with the blacks?” Reign tweeted.

When questioned about what Cube’s motive would be in assisting Trump after being an avid critic of the president, Reign summed it up to one very key element that resonates with all Trump supporters: Money.

“Cube’s in that tax bracket where he’s going to be fine either way. And I’m sure his finances have been rosy under Trump. So why would he want to change what is working for HIM.”

With a net worth of approximately $160 million, Cube certainly could be money motivated or maybe just a concerned rapper doing his part to ensure the safety and security of Blacks. Either way, today was certainly not a good day for the West Coast MC.
