When Juelz Santana first tried lean, he tied the experience directly to Houston’s own Paul Wall.

In an interview with “The Art of Dialogue” earlier this year, Santana recalled, “I was drinking it through … It got introduced to me through Houston guys, my man Paul Wall.”

For Paul Wall, hearing that admission years later brought feelings of regret.

Speaking in a newly released interview with the outlet, Wall explained why he has long felt uneasy about being part of Santana’s introduction.

“At the time, you know what I’m saying, we all drink, we’re all drinking. And you look at people that drank … they’re not crackheads,” he said.

To him, lean was not seen as a dangerous drug during those days.

“We’re not breaking in people’s houses, selling your mama TV, pawning it to buy drink. Drink wasn’t even that expensive back then…You know, drink was cheap as hell back in those days,” he explained.

He went further by describing how the physical toll often looked different from other substances. According to Wall, the long-term users he encountered were typically overweight, which created other health struggles.

The Houston rapper also remembered what happened after initially introducing Santana to lean. By their next encounter, the Dipset star already had his own supply.

“He had a full-on bottle,” he admitted. “You know, of course, I didn’t…you never know how it’s going to affect different people, how people are gonna immerse themselves in it.”

Over time, Santana’s casual use turned into a dependency. He previously explained that he began drinking lean regularly while surrounded by other artists, eventually becoming physically reliant on it.

When Paul Wall looks back, he recognizes the weight of being the person who introduced Santana to lean, even if he never intended for it to have lasting effects.

“I definitely feel terrible,” he reflected.
