Pepsi is rewriting its own playbook with a brand-new soda that blends classic cola flavor with a modern wellness twist.
On February 17, the beverage giant announced the nationwide debut of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, describing it as “a first for legacy colas.” The launch places the iconic soda brand directly into the booming prebiotic drink space, which has gained traction among shoppers looking for functional ingredients in familiar favorites.
In a press release, the company stated, “Following a sold-out Black Friday online debut last fall, Pepsi – the first legacy cola to introduce prebiotic fiber – officially launches Pepsi Prebiotic Cola nationwide.”
Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is rolling out in two varieties: Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla. The company says the drink contains no artificial sweeteners. Each 12-ounce can includes 30 calories, 5 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of prebiotic fiber.
Consumers can find the new soda in single cans or eight-packs at retailers and through online platforms.
Although this marks the first time the flagship Pepsi brand has introduced a prebiotic formula, PepsiCo has already made moves in the category. In 2025, the company acquired prebiotic soda brand Poppi for $1.95 billion, expanding its footprint in functional beverages.
The launch also follows Pepsi’s recent Super Bowl campaign. The ad, titled “The Choice,” features a polar bear taking the Pepsi Challenge and learning he selected Pepsi Zero Sugar over Coke Zero Sugar in a blind taste test. The character then embarks on what the brand calls “a journey of self-discovery” as he accepts “his newfound identity as a Pepsi lover.”
