Peter Robbins, Voice of Charlie Brown, Died by Suicide at 65

Peter Robbins, the voice actor of Charlie Brown in the 60’s Peanuts cartoons, died at age 65.

The former child actor took his own life last week, his family told Fox 5, San Diego.

He started voicing Charlie Brown in 1963 when he was nine years old, contributing to the 1960’s “Peanut” shows and the classic holiday movies “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

Robbins adored the character so much he had a tattoo of Charlie Brown and Snoopy on his arm.

Over the past 25 years, he publicly battled a drug and alcohol addiction and several legal issues.

In 2013, he pleaded guilty to threatening and stalking both his ex-girlfriend and a plastic surgeon who gave her breasts enhancements he paid for. He also spent time in prison for making criminal threats to a Sandiago County Sherriff.

“I would recommend to anybody that has his bipolar disorder to take it seriously because your life can turn around in the span of a month like it did to me,” Robins told Fox 5 after his release in 2019. “I came out of prison, and I’m a better person for it. I’m much more humble, grateful and thankful that I lived through the experience.

Phil Blauer, an anchor at Fox 5 TV in Sandiago, was a longtime friend of Robbins. Over the years, he also helped chronicle Robbins’ struggles with mental health.

“My heart is broken today,” Blauer tweeted on Tuesday as he reported the news of Robbins’ death. He added, “May he rest in peace and soar in heaven. I hope he finally kicks the football among the angels.”

Blauer said he sincerely wished he could have done more for his friend.

“I will always treasure his nickname for me,” Blauer said. “He used to call me ‘Scoop.’ Rest in peace, Charlie Brown, say hi to Linus for me up in heaven.”

According to the TV station, a memorial service for Robbins will be held at a future date.
