To recognize Prince for his influence on music as well as his role in shaping his hometown of Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota will be awarding Prince with an honorary degree.
University President Eric Kaler and Regent Darrin Rosha will present Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, the Doctorate of Humane Letters, in a ceremony on the school campus Wednesday. The university already had plans on presenting the degree to Prince himself before his death in 2016.
The university’s School Of Music will be joined by guests such as Kirk Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, St. Paul Peterson, Cameron Kinghorn and a surprise guest in paying homage to Prince by performing his greatest hits.
