Radio City Music Hall Reopens with Dave Chappelle Documentary Screening and Surprise Concert

Dave Chappelle told the crowd at Radio City after the premiere of his documentary “This Time This Place” on Saturday night, “I love New York City.”

The event marked the conclusion of the Tribeca Film Festival. For admittance, guests had to confirm vaccination, and masks were allowed to be removed during the screening.

“I made my name in New York City,” Chappelle told the packed house. “I met my wife in New York City. I had two of my three children in New York City. I am proud to be the opening night of Radio City.”

Following the screening, the comedian received a standing ovation and apologized to the audience, saying, “I’m really sorry if you lost someone or lost something during this pandemic.”

Guests were dancing in the aisles during live performances by Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, and Fat Joe.

Also in attendance were Bob Saget, Sharon Stone, Zoe Kravitz, and Anthony Anderson, as well as Tribeca Festival CEO Jane Rosenthal, who described it as “fully vaxxed and socially squeezed.”

The film, directed by Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar, takes a look behind the scenes at Chappelle’s small town in Ohio during the height of the pandemic, when he put on socially distanced comedy shows with Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Dave Letterman, Jon Stewart, Tiffany Haddish, Michelle Wolfe, and “Chappelle Show” favorite Donnell Rawlings.
