Dave Blunts is no longer standing beside Kanye West.
The former songwriter has made it clear that his professional relationship with the Chicago rapper is finished, and he is using music to explain why.
His latest diss track does more than criticize Ye. It levels serious accusations and takes accountability for his own role in past controversies.
Before releasing the track, Blunts told his fans last week that the partnership had ended.
On Instagram he posted, “Stop asking me about YE music I don’t work w dude anymore I’m on my own path!” That message hinted at tension, but it was only the beginning of what he had to say.
The diss record goes into detail about how Kanye allegedly tried to influence him. Blunts raps, “Kanye West, he made me diss the Jews,” followed by, “B*tch I’m speaking out this is my truth / I’m so sick and tired of being groomed.” He also claims Kanye provided him with a large sum of money, something he never wanted in the first place.
In one of the most confrontational moments, Blunts addresses a past comment made by Kanye about sexual involvement with a relative.
On his track “COUSINS,” Blunts challenges that admission with direct lyrics: “I’m not your cousin you can’t top me / […] / I’m putting this sh*t to rest / Hell no I don’t support incest / Two cousins should not have sex / Two cousins should not 69.”
Although the diss is laced with attacks, Blunts also uses the record to confront his own past. He repeatedly says in the chorus, “Never meant to be that type of dude,” apologizing for ever contributing to anti-Semitic rhetoric.
This track closes the door on any future collaboration between the two artists.
For Blunts, it represents both a personal break from Kanye West and an effort to move forward while making his stance unmistakably clear.
Dave Blunts takes shots at Ye in a new diss track:
