Concern is growing for Ray J after his mother, Sonja Norwood, revealed that the singer and television personality has been diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition.

Norwood recently opened up about the frightening health scare, sharing that her son experienced a sudden medical emergency that required immediate attention from doctors. According to her, Ray J began suffering from intense symptoms that left him unable to move.

She explained that Ray J was experiencing “severe chest pain” and “couldn’t move.” Doctors first evaluated him for pneumonia while trying to determine the cause of the pain. However, medical staff decided to run additional tests after ruling that out.

An angiogram was later performed, which allowed doctors to take a closer look at his heart. The procedure revealed that Ray J is dealing with cardiomyopathy, a serious condition that affects the heart muscle and can make it harder for the heart to pump blood throughout the body.

Norwood said the gravity of the diagnosis became clear as doctors walked them through the findings. “Every other word explained to us was ‘this is life-threatening,’” she shared during a livestream.

Cardiomyopathy can vary in severity depending on the specific form and underlying cause. In some cases, patients require long-term treatment plans that may include medication, lifestyle changes, and ongoing monitoring from heart specialists.

Ray J, who has remained a familiar figure in entertainment through his music, television appearances, and business ventures, has not publicly spoken about the diagnosis yet. However, he has hinted that his condition could soon lead to his death.
