Renee Nicole Good’s Wife Speaks Out Following Her ICE Murder: “Even in the Middle of Grief and Fear, People Still Show Up”

The Minneapolis community gathered in the hundreds this past Saturday to honor the life of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother of three who was killed by an ICE agent last month.

The memorial marked the first public appearance of Renee’s wife, Becca Good, who has spent the last several weeks grieving in private. Though she did not speak to the crowd directly, her powerful words were delivered by Rabbi Arielle Lekach-Rosenberg.

“Becca Good, Renee’s wife, has had to grieve alone for weeks,” Lekach-Rosenberg told the crowd. “This is a really important moment — Rebecca gets to share words back to you.”

Becca’s statement focused heavily on the strength of her neighbors and the necessity of remembering all victims of recent violence in the city. She expressed deep gratitude for the local support system that has helped her family navigate daily life since the tragedy.

“Minneapolis has shown me that even in the middle of grief and fear, people still show up for each other. For that, I want to say thank you,” she wrote. She specifically highlighted the “organizing food and rides, making sure our kids get to school, checking in on neighbors, and standing together in the cold” as the reason she remains proud to call the city her home.

However, the statement also served as a sobering reminder that her family’s pain is shared by many others. Becca drew a direct line between Renee’s death and the January 24 killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was also shot by federal agents.

“Renee was not the first person killed, and she was not the last. You know my wife’s name, and you know Alex’s name, but there are many others in this city being harmed that you don’t know — their families are hurting just like mine, even if they don’t look like mine,” she continued. She urged the public to recognize that these victims are “neighbors, friends, coworkers, classmates” and insisted that “this shouldn’t happen to anyone.

Beyond the tragedy, Becca painted a picture of a woman dedicated to her family and her career as a teacher and volunteer. Renee leaves behind a 6-year-old son, as well as two older children, ages 12 and 15. Becca shared that she carries on Renee’s mission every night, “as I kiss my son at bedtime and tell him things are going to get better.”

The message concluded with a plea for a more compassionate society.

“Renee and I chose kindness. We believed that every life deserves the same care, treatment, and dignity, no matter who they are or what they look like,” Becca’s statement concluded. “That shouldn’t be radical. If it is, then I want Renee and our family to be known for how we practiced radical kindness every day.”
