Teens who aren’t vaccinated are being hospitalized 10 times more often than teens who are vaccinated.
According to a new study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adolescents who have yet to get a COVID-19 vaccine are 10 times more likely to find themselves hospitalized.
Researchers studied hospitalizations in 14 different states from June 20 and July 31, reports Yahoo! News. They found that the Delta variant of COVID-19 spiked Rona cases by 10.1 times as it’s been circulating. The data shows “that vaccines were highly effective at preventing serious COVID-19 illness,” said researchers.
In addition, the study revealed that children who live in states with low vaccination rates were hospitalized more. Researchers say that with children under 12 still not being cleared to take the vaccination, it is pertinent that those who can do so.
“Broad, community-wide vaccination of all eligible persons is a critical component of mitigation strategies to protect pediatric populations from SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe COVID-19 illness,” said researchers.
