Robert Cosby Jr., son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, is facing an extended period in Salt Lake County Jail after pleading guilty to multiple charges on November 25.
His pleas came just one day after his wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, filed for divorce. The 23-year-old will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing on February 3, 2026, when a judge will determine his remaining sentence.
The charges stem from a series of incidents between September and November that involved his wife and father-in-law, Shad Stoke.
Initially, Robert Jr. was hit with 14 criminal counts. He pleaded guilty to eight, including a felony for property damage exceeding $5,000, two violations of a pretrial protective order filed by Alexiana, one assault on a peace officer, one violation of a jail release order, two criminal trespassing charges on a dwelling, and one Class B misdemeanor assault. Six remaining misdemeanor counts were dismissed with prejudice.
Alexiana’s divorce petition, filed in Salt Lake County District Court on November 24, imposed strict restrictions on both parties. It prohibits harassment, intimidation, and interference in the other’s life, including electronically. The court also outlined additional rules barring domestic violence, misuse of personal identification, and tampering with utilities or services.
Robert Jr.’s lawyer, Clayton Simms, explained that the guilty pleas reflect Robert Jr.’s struggle to accept the end of his marriage.
“Understanding and recognizing the relationship was difficult for Robert based on his religion and background. To him, marriage is sacred and forever,” Simms said. He added that Robert’s parents, who have been married for 27 years, set an example he initially followed, making it harder for him to accept the divorce.
“Robert has accepted responsibility for his mistakes and has pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors,” Simms noted.
The case drew attention after Utah prosecutors accused Robert Jr. of attempting to enter his father-in-law’s home through a dog door on two occasions.
During one incident, he allegedly assaulted Shad Stoke on the front lawn while Alexiana was present. Court records also reveal that Robert Jr. vandalized the property and bit a law enforcement officer during his arrest. Authorities had to use a taser to subdue him after he resisted commands.
Robert Jr. has previously appeared alongside his mother on RHOSLC, giving the case a public profile that has drawn widespread attention.
Between his ongoing legal challenges and the recent divorce filing, the situation has placed significant pressure on the Cosby family and highlights the personal consequences of Robert Jr.’s actions over the past few months.
