Ryan Coogler is reportedly ready to put a new spin on The X-Files, leaving fans and original participants of the film rejoicing.
Chris Carter, the man behind the original series, shared the exciting news. The X-Files debuted in September 1993 on Fox. It ran until 2002, when the ninth and final season aired. Then, in 2016, the show was rebooted, and while still popular, the initial success was not there. The series finally bowed out gracefully in 2018 after the official season 11. Between the show leaving and returning once more, two feature films were released: The X-Files in 1998 and The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008. Now, the iconic filmmaker has his hands full, restoring the show to its glory days.
During a recent appearance with On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko, Carter said he’d been in touch with Coogler, who is working on a “diverse cast.”
“He’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory,” Carter confirmed.
Since the project is in its infancy, only some details have been released. The biggest question is where the show will land. The X-Files originally aired on Fox, but since the network and 20th TV are no longer under the same company, it’s unlikely that fans will watch it there. Hulu has emerged as a strong contender to house The X-Files since other Fox shows, such as King of the Hill” have found themselves on the streamer.
Coogler has not commented publicly on the show.
