“Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler was briefly detained earlier this year after a Bank of America bank teller mistook him for a robber.

TMZ reported that Coogler walked into the bank wearing shades and a COVID face mask. He then handed the teller a withdrawal slip with a written note.

The note read: “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

When the teller saw the amount of money he was requesting, he assumed something was wrong, so police were called for an attempted robbery.

Officers arrived and detained two people waiting outside for Ryan in an SUV before going in and handcuffing Coogler himself.

After an investigation, police say it was all a big misunderstanding and that the BoA employee is to blame.

According to the report, the teller noticed something unusual when she made the transaction on her computer. So, she called her boss and told him that Coogler was trying to rob the bank, so they called 911.

Police finally realized that this was just an error, and Ryan had actually done nothing wrong. The police report notes that he asked for the badge numbers of all the responding officers after everyone had been released.

“This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on,” Coogler told TMZ.
