The 26-year-old sat down with Baller Alert, where he shared what motivated him to make the transition. According to Trey, being in the music industry from a young age became “taxing” on him spiritually.
“The more I started to get in tune with what I wanted morally and just what I wanted in my life, as far as just being more grounded. It’s a lot of chasing that goes on in the music industry, and I think that’s something that started to exhaust me,” he shared. “Once I found ways and outlets to have more peace with myself, I give thanks to God for allowing me to have those tools.”
Trey shared that he first shared his spiritual journey with those closest to him before allowing his social media followers into his “testimony.” Trey says that he was met with support, which solidified that gospel was the place for him.
While secular music was his starting point, having collaborated with Bryson Tiller and Mariah The Scientist, Trey now says his focus is solely on making faith-based records. However, he has no interest in acting “holier than thou” and acknowledges that smoking, drinking, and partying no longer suit him.
Trey put his new style on full display, dropping his latest single, “Callin On U,” featuring Deca. In the heartfelt tune, he sings openly about his walk with God and how this continues to carry him through, a message sure to resonate with other young people seeking the same path.
