Questions continue to mount around the disappearance of former NFL defensive back Sam Beal, whose whereabouts have remained unknown for six months as authorities and family members search for answers.
According to records from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, Beal was reported missing from Virginia Beach, Virginia, with his last confirmed contact dated July 13, 2025. Multiple outlets, including NBC Sports and TMZ, have since confirmed the details contained in the case file. However, his case failed to attract national attention until this week when his family pleaded with the public for help.
Beal, 29, was last seen in person by his girlfriend on July 12. The report states that he had borrowed her vehicle and dropped her off at a relative’s home. Although he was expected to head to work, Beal later told her that he had instead traveled to Virginia Beach the following day.
The borrowed vehicle was later located in Virginia Beach. Inside, investigators found Beal’s shoes and socks on the front passenger-side floorboard, along with sand scattered across the interior. The case file notes that Beal had only taken the clothes he was wearing, a pair of slides, and his wallet when he left.
As concern grows, Beal’s family has turned to the public for help. In a Facebook post shared Monday, a woman identifying herself as his sister expressed the family’s distress.
“We’ve done everything we could on our end to piece things together, and at this point we’re in desperate need of support on all ends,” she wrote.
She added, “I’m not here to answer a bunch of why’s and how’s I just need this to land in the right direction to gain some form of answers or closure. I’m a Big sister, and I need my brother to know that We Love You and miss yo,u and this has been a heavy feeling for months to carry around.”
Beal was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants and remained with the team until his release in 2021.
Virginia Beach Police have not released additional details. Anyone with information is urged to contact the department at 757-385-4141.
