The violent assault on pro-life advocate Savannah Craven Antao in Manhattan earlier this year is back in the spotlight after prosecutors decided to drop the criminal case against her alleged attacker.
The April incident, which went viral online, showed Brianna Rivers punching Antao during a filmed street interview, leaving her bloodied on camera. Despite the footage, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office quietly dismissed the case, citing procedural issues.
Now, Antao is breaking her silence. In a statement released through her legal team, the Thomas More Society, she described the outcome as “justice denied.” She warned that giving a free pass to political violence puts the safety of everyday citizens at risk.
“Millions of people saw my attack, an unprovoked assault, captured on camera,” Antao said. “Even with indisputable evidence, District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office quietly let the charges fade away. Political violence should never be tolerated or given a free pass.”
Adding insult to injury, Antao revealed that she wasn’t even directly notified by prosecutors. Instead, she discovered the charges had been dropped after Rivers began celebrating online. Reports also say Rivers “liked” social media comments supporting the attack and even released a rap song mocking the incident.
With the criminal case now closed, Antao and the Thomas More Society are preparing for a civil lawsuit against Rivers. The legal team hopes the lawsuit will succeed where prosecutors would not, holding Rivers accountable.
