Sellers on Amazon are Tracking Down Customers Who Leave Bad Reviews: “We Hope You Can Reconsider Deleting Comments”

New reports show some sellers on Amazon are tracking down customers who leave poor reviews on their products.

Watch ya review, then you should watch ya mouth is pretty much what some Amazon sellers are telling customers if they don’t like their review of their products, Fox Business reports. According to the news outlet, sellers who ship through Amazon have been reaching out to buyers who leave bad reviews, asking them to change them or delete them completely, a move totally in violation of terms they agree to as a seller.

One of the contacted buyers was New York native Katherine Scott who purchased a $10 oil spray bottle after seeing the 1,000 positive reviews. However, when the spray bottle came to her in the email, it wasn’t what she expected.

“It was like a Super Soaker gun instead of a spray-paint can, which defeats the purpose of the product,” she said. As a result, Scott went ahead and left a negative review. A week after that, Scott received an email from someone who claimed to be from the customer service team of the oil spray bottle’s brand, Auxtun.

“We are willing to refund in full,” the representative wrote. “We hope you can reconsider deleting comments at your convenience, okay?” read the email. But that wasn’t all. The person in the email told Scott that it would continue to send her emails if she didn’t respond. “When we do not receive a response, we will assume that you did not see it and will continue to send emails,” read the email.

According to the report, the seller isn’t even supposed to have buyers’ emails. On top of not contacting them outside of the site, sellers are also banned from asking buyers to change their reviews. Sellers also aren’t supposed to have access to customers’ contact information.

“We do not share customer email addresses with third-party sellers,” an Amazon spokesman told Fox Business. A spokesperson for the company added that if a person experiences email abuse or harassment from a seller, contact the company by emailing [email protected]

Scott says the company emailed her several times. At one point, she asked for a refund but didn’t remove her poor company review. “It was so creepy. They emailed me directly about it over and over,” said the woman. Eventually, she reached out to Amazon’s support team.

“I am forwarding to the team who will get back to you on this within 48 hours. They will make sure the seller will be no longer associated with Amazon,” Amazon’s support team said in its response. However, she says no one ever got back to her.
