Shared Uber Rides Are Coming Back To Select U.S. Cities

Uber‘s shared ride option is making a comeback, but it will only be in nine cities in the country.

It’s been more than two years since we’ve had the experience of sharing Uber rides with strangers for a lower cost. The shared ride option was removed in an effort to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. Now that the pandemic has somewhat subsided, the opportunity is back on the table.

Uber says it plans on expanding its Uberx Share, a reshaped version of Uber Pool, in the future, but for now, only nine cities will have the carpool option available. Some of the cities include Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.

Uber’s SVP of mobility and business operations, Andrew Macdonald said UberX Share “reimagines the future of shared rides with greater efficiency and safety top of mind,” in a statement. He added that rides can anticipate “an upfront discount and up to 20% off the total fare, if matched with a co-rider along the way.”
