From the infamous drink throwing and tableside showdowns to the deep conversations about sisterhood, the journey is finally coming to an end for the ladies of VH1. Shaunie Henderson, the powerhouse behind “Basketball Wives,” officially confirmed on Thursday that the long-running reality series will not be returning to television. After 12 seasons of capturing the high-stakes lives of women in the professional sports world, Henderson is ready to close this chapter for good.

Stepping away from a show that defined a decade of television wasn’t a snap decision, but rather a reflection of where Shaunie is in her life today.
“This is just called growth and, you know, moving forward,” she explained in a video message posted to her Instagram. Making the call to end the franchise, she stated clearly, “I’m announcing today that ‘Basketball Wives‘ will not be returning.
The show’s legacy is massive, having launched back in 2010 and evolving into a full-blown cultural movement. It provided a platform for stars like Evelyn Lozada, Jackie Christie, Malaysia Pargo, and Jennifer Williams to share their truths and build their own empires. Looking back on the 16-year run, Shaunie noted, “What began as a vision to tell my story and stories of women like me, grew into a cultural movement that created opportunity, sparked conversation, and honestly, amplified voices that deserved to be heard.” She acknowledged that the series has been the most “defining part” of her entire professional path.
Before moving on to her next “season,” Henderson made sure to show love to the people who kept the show running. She extended her gratitude to the networks and production teams at VH1, BET, Truly Original, and Shed Media. However, her most sincere thanks were reserved for the cast members who opened up their homes and lives to the cameras.
“Most importantly, I’m thankful to the women who trusted me with their stories and the creatives in front of and behind the camera who helped bring this vision to life,” she shared.
While fans are mourning the end of an era, Shaunie is already looking ahead. She teased that she is transitioning into a new space that better aligns with who she has become since the show first aired. It’s the end of a legendary run for Basketball Wives, but it sounds like Shaunie is ready to win in a completely different game.
