From Michigan Head Coach to Criminal Court: Sherrone Moore Hit With Home Invasion and Stalking Charges [Video]

Former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was formally charged Friday with home invasion in the third degree, stalking, and breaking and entering or entering without breaking, cementing the legal fallout that followed his abrupt firing and arrest earlier this week. Video of Moore’s arraignment was released the same day, showing the once-celebrated coach standing before a judge less than 48 hours after losing his job.

According to the New York Post, Moore, 39, was arrested Wednesday evening, just hours after the University of Michigan terminated him “with cause” following an internal investigation that found “credible evidence” he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Authorities allege Moore went to the Ann Arbor-area home of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver, shortly after his firing.

Police dispatch audio from the scene captured a frantic report.

“Male at the location is attacking her … said he’s been stalking her for months,” a voice told a dispatcher. The caller also reported Moore had a knife and was threatening to harm himself.

According to investigators, Moore fled the residence on foot before being arrested near a local church. Dispatch audio later described him as “suicidal,” with an officer stating, “It’s gonna be at the Well Church, 211 Willis Road … suicidal … driving a black Chevy Tahoe blacked out.”

At Friday’s arraignment, prosecutors outlined the charges tied to the alleged break-in and pattern of stalking behavior. Moore remains in custody as the case moves forward, with conditions of release expected to be addressed at a future hearing.

The charges cap a dramatic fall for Moore, who had been preparing the No. 18-ranked Wolverines for the Citrus Bowl days before his firing. He had also appeared in media interviews earlier in the week, making the timing of the scandal even more jarring within college football circles.

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced Moore’s termination Wednesday, stating, “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Moore, the first Black head football coach in Michigan history, now faces an uncertain future as the criminal case unfolds and the program moves on without him.
