After a triple shooting Monday afternoon in Midtown Atlanta, two men are dead, and one is in the hospital.
Two people were shot at a condo building on West Peachtree Street, where the shooting began. A few blocks away on Peachtree, another victim was shot.
Following reports of an active shooter, Atlanta police, SWAT teams, and K9s swarmed Peachtree Street near Colony Square.
The suspect was identified as Raissa Kengne with assistance from witnesses and an integrated city camera system. Following the release of a surveillance image from MARTA, Kengne was eventually detained and taken into custody at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
After Kengne had been arrested, police recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Airline passengers and employees watched as she was handcuffed and taken to the back of a police vehicle.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed that 41-year-old Wesley Freeman died at the hospital and 60-year-old Michael Shinners died at 1280 West Peachtree.
“Micheal Shinners was an above and beyond building manager. He was loved by our community. The events today are shocking, and he can never be replaced. We are deeply saddened,” said Brian Hall, a resident of 1280 West.
According to Beacon Management Services, Mike Horne, the third shooting victim, is currently in the ICU and will need additional surgeries.
Property managers informed all residents of the shooting that occurred at 1 pm.
During a press conference, police said that it seemed like Kengne specifically targeted all three victims.
Residents of the building where the fatal shooting occurred told CBS46 that they recognized the shooter.
The accused shooter’s social media is said to suggest a possible motive. A day before the incident, she published a nasty statement criticizing building management on her public LinkedIn page.
According to Kenge, she complained about alleged fraud committed by a former employer.
In June, Kenge filed a lawsuit against Georgia Power. In the lawsuit, she also claimed that several 1280 West management team members and board members withheld her mail, including mail from Georgia Power.
Kengne is being charged with two counts of murder, three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of false imprisonment, and two counts of possessing a firearm during the commission of certain felonies.
